    1. It really feels like the end of an era for digital collectors who just wanted a simple way to stream their own files

How long until emby follows suit. Thankfully, lifetime premier membership here as I used to be involved with it back when it was a plugin for vista media centre and called Video Browser… Followed it through the name change and Win 7 plugin to Media Browser (often called MB) and finally into it’s final name change to EMBY and becoming a stand alone platform.

That’s almost 20yrs using it… Only left the project because of the toxic behaviour of some of the devs… No idea who’s even working on it these last 8yrs.

But I still use it… free membership

If i have my plex server on my pc or nas could i still watch my movies while im abroad?

    4. Had Plex for years, Lifetime purchase. My old WD PR4100 NAS is just plain wimpy for 4K video 5.1+. Infuse has made all that video BS irrelevant. Infuse use the processor on my Apple TV 4K.

Plex DB corruption has been the bane of my existence. Infuse for the win.

I just wanted to remind you Redditors that y’all made fun of me for putting my pirated content on a flash drive and sticking it into my TV to watch, instead of setting up a plex server.

Right and so if plex is offering something like tailscale specifically for their service, why should it be free. I’m glad tailscale is free for home users, but idk why people expect it.

Its still cheap for a lifetime pass. They just had them on sale. Ill never understand why people complain about paying a minimal fee for a good service

    8. That was old news too I’m surprised you’re getting this notice now they did this last year.

As long as you have a plex pass your fine so are your friends and family that stream from your server.

It’s basically telling you either the plex pass or their new watch pass in order to stream remotely or to your friends or family, they don’t need the watch pass if you have the plex pass btw.

The difference between the two is if you get the plex pass you and your friend and family don’t need the watch pass they can just stream.

But if you have the watch pass everyone needs the watch pass to stream your content.

It’s an unnecessary evil they came up with just to make more money in hopes you’re too stupid to know the difference between the plex pass and the watch pass.

I suggest you get the lifetime plex pass.

Paying somebody else just to stream your own media?

      Sounds like a good idea!

    10. Hi. I abandoned Plex a long time ago: never liked that I needed an online account to watch my local media.
I then used Emby and didn’t like it: the experience was not polished at all and the lack of clients for the TV I had made it useless to me.
Finally landed on Jellyfin and it is all I ever wanted: totally offline, clients for TV and tablets that are good quality.

If you have just a single device where you watch your stuff from (aka just one TV), then it’s useless. A simple external HDD will do the trick nicely.

    11. Yall expected free streaming to last forever with plex? The whole thing started off as a personal media server, dude my dad is stacked with plex, 10k movies, 15k shows, a shit ton of songs. I dont get the idea of desiring free streaming, like dude, the lifetime pass of what $150? Max maybe, of a onetime purchase, is still better than the $90-$300 a year? Yall cant be serious

Proud pirates paying for the right to watch their own media 🙂

Accounts being required killed it for me and the ui
Is a complete mess, i moved to jellfin its not perfect but its simple and does the job

    14. Nah I only use it locally so it doesn’t apply to me but it’s a dick move imo. You can always switch to jellyfin.

    15. Ok, WTH!

Here I am, tired of all the subscriptions. Cancelling all but one and get Plex. For them to move to subscriptions too?!

Whoever made this decision can go eat a turd.

    16. Wait they’re requiring plex pass for remote now?

I mean I already have plex pass… but I’m not a fan of this direction. Guess I’m switching to jellyfin full time now. Good thing I already have it installed.
